I cannot believe I stumbled upon this website! I am intrigued to learn more.... Our daughter Hailee, age 11 passed away suddenly on August 23, 2008 from what the doctors called encephalitis. We believed in the days following her death that we would be told what caused this deadly disease. Sadly, we were not. We went 2 long years of wondering and wondering. Finally last year we were given a semi-conclusion or answer to the mystery. Although the MN Department of Health will not say for sure or document this as the cause, it is believed that she died from naegleria fowleri. A freshwater ameoba that may have entered her brain through the nose while swimming. The amoeba is so virile that it actually is unstoppable in its attempt to find food and shelter in the human brain. Thank you for this website and for speaking up for parents and families that live every day in a mystery that they cannot solve, a nightmare they cannot wake up from. God Bless you.
